Parish Council Grant Application Policy
Thornton le Dale Parish Council will normally allocate a small sum of money in its annual budget to offer grants to organisations whose activities benefit Thornton le Dale Parish and its residents.
The value of any single grant will not usually exceed £200 (to be agreed by Council ) The Parish Council will consider applications for small grants on an annual basis.
Applications should:
- be made in writing (by email or post) to the Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer using the form on the website. (hard copy available on request)
- include a contact name, address, telephone number, together with an email address if possible
- specify the amount of funding requested
- describe how the grant will benefit the village’s community if this is not self-evident
- include any additional information the applicant may think relevant, such as the timescale of a particular project or specific detail about proposed expenditure
- agree to acknowledge the grant from Thornton le Dale Parish Council in any publicity about their project.
The Clerk will acknowledge the application and inform the applicant of the date of the meeting at which the Council will decide whether to make a grant. The Clerk will inform the applicant of the Council’s decision following the meeting.
The response will usually:
- state whether or not the Council has decided to offer a grant
- specify the amount offered
- list any conditions upon which an offer is made
- specify how and when payment will be made (usually by BACS), subject to an offer being accepted
The response will not usually give any reasons for the Council’s decision, nor will the Council be under any obligation to do so.
The Council may ask for a brief written report and/or photographs and/or comments from Thornton le Dale village residents, recording how a grant has been spent, and how it has benefited the community, and these may be published on the Parish Council’s website, or in any written communication.
Attendance at the Annual Parish Meeting to give a short talk, a few minutes long, about how the grant has been of benefit to the community may be required.
